In 2018, I wanted to highlight that “black” women and girls were Lost Without Protection- In Search for Connection to argue major points like,
➠“Black” women and girls only make-up 13% of the United States population, but comprises about half of female homicide victims.
➠Homicides is one of the largest violent disparities towards “black” women in the U.S.
➠“Black” women experience rape and other forms of sexual or physical violence at higher rates in comaprison to all other ethnicities in the U.S.
➠The majority of “black” women in the U.S were sexually abused as children- addressed later in life.
➠“Black” women suffer from a form of PTSD encoded gene- leading to high infant mortality rates.
I questioned whether or not if the acts of violence towards “black” men due to the system of racism left “black” women lost without protection. I debated with myself by taking a look at my own experiences in search of truth. There has been a series of life experiences to become awakened to this information with a different outlook from my original thoughts only three years ago.
These are the questions that I ask myself today-
Can systems be broken such as racism?
Should “black” women date outside of her race/class?
What are your thoughts?
In the blogs up ahead, we’ll take a look at each condition affecting “black” women in the United States today in 2021: High Infant Death Rates, Violence against “black” women, and Sexual Abuse Rates for “black” women and girls at disproportionate rates.
